March 14, 2009 Kuta Bali Indonesia

My first action on arriving to Bali was to take off my shawl. I had only seen one pair of bare shoulders on a woman (and that was at the airport) the whole time that I was on Java. I immediately felt weirdly exposed and underdressed, but got over it within the first fifteen minutes. I've either got prickly heat or heat rash or scabies or there are things in the bed at the hotel. Time for a tube of Dr. Singh or Tiger Balm, or whatever the local menthol goop is.

It's only been 24 hours in Bali, and I think I've walked more than all time total in Java. There was a huge lizard, two feet long at least - that ran across my path yesterday. At night the hotel has bats the size of crows.
